<p>Boxers are some of the best-conditioned (and toughest) athletes in the world. Boxers like Joe Frasier, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, and, of course, the great one, Mohamed Ali, have all competed at the highest level. Does that mean you have to be like them? Of course not, but you can train like the real boxers do. Want to step up your training to the next level? Give boxing a try!</p>
<p>Here are just some of the benefits you can achieve through boxing and boxing conditioning:</p>

<li>Increases cardiovascular fitness</li>
<li>Teaches self defense </li>
<li>Builds confidence and self esteem</li>

<i>Still intimidated?</i> Don&#8217;t be. Boxers come in all shapes and sizes. Just because you are training like a boxer doesn&#8217;t mean you will be in the ring with some monster trading punches. Many people box for the sheer health benefits. Others just want some stress relief. There is nothing like hitting a heavy bag after a bad day. </p>
<p>    Boxing is also a great tool for adolescents to build confidence and self esteem. Being a teenager is hard enough with all of the pressures (school, hormonal changes, after school activities, etc.) placed on kids. Incorporating boxing into the life of a teenager can be a huge help in building his/her confidence and self esteem as well as being a great workout. </p>
<p>So if you think boxing isn&#8217;t for you, think again. Give it a try. <i>You may just like it!</i></p>

<p>Many trainers at Evolution Trainers use the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) for assessing their clients, and you might wonder why.</p>
<p>Developed by well-known physical therapist <strong>Gray Cook</strong>, the <strong>Functional Movement Screen (FMS)</strong> is a an assessment tool comprised of 7 different movements.   A departure from traditional tests and  assessments, the FMS movement assessments are evaluating <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">mobility</span></em> and <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">stability</span></em> throughout the body.  Each movement pattern <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">evaluates the client bilaterally</span></em>, so asymmetries between the right and left side can be identified.</p>
<p>Why focus on mobility and stability, and why not start with tests of strength or static flexibility?</p>
<p><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Testing strength and launching into a strength training program without first evaluating a client for general movement dysfunction would be akin to building a beautiful house on a foundation of loose sand… looks great but it’s going to fall apart!</span></em> Similarly, adding strength or performance training onto faulty movement patterns due to lack of mobility and instability is a recipe for injuries.</p>
<p>The FMS efficiently assesses joint mobility and stability, and creates a clear path for the coach or trainer to follow when designing a client’s training program.  For each assessment in the FMS, there is a series of corrective exercises designed to improve performance in mobility and/or stability in the deficient area as identified by the particular FMS assessment.  Improving on these primitive movement patterns has been shown to produce wide ranging positive results that include: <em>injury prevention, pain reduction, performance improvements and increased cognitive functioning</em>.</p>
