Fiona Gilbert

In 2003, I was diagnosed with a neurological condition that affected even my ability to walk. Unwilling to accept a life confined to a wheelchair but not knowing how to exercise given my physical limitations, I went back to school for a degree in Adaptive Fitness Therapy.

After focusing my energies on getting myself healthy, I began receiving requests to train individuals also suffering from limited mobility due to neurological and other chronic medical conditions. Through my extensive experience with special populations, I have come to understand that all individual have their own unique abilities, challenges and goals and their training program needs to be specifically tailored to them.

I have found this approach also works well for the “average” individual. Whether you are training for the ski season, the Senior Olympics, an adventure trip or simply haven’t exercised in years and don’t know where to begin, my individualized approach assesses where your fitness level is today and then builds a plan to help you realize your ultimate goal. There is no reason why you should have to try and fit into an exercise routine designed for someone else – it should be designed to fit you!

Fitness is a tool to help you lead an exhilarating life. My role is to take the scary out of the gym, teach you to exercise safely and efficiently, and to celebrate each milestone with you as you change your life one step at a time.
