After his soccer career at ASU came to an end, Jake and a group of friends decided to train for a marathon. Finishing this first marathon (The San Francisco Chronicle) was a life changing experience that led him to a career in the health fields. Since then, Jake’s career philosophy is to deliver science based programs and information, using a client centered paradigm to ensure each individual receives the attention, services and ongoing feedback appropriate to their unique backgrounds and goals. Jake is passionate about motivating others to reach their unique fitness and sports performance goals to maximize performance and enjoyment through body and mind.

Dr. Jake Havenar earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Sport and Exercise Psychology and a Doctorate in Physical Activity, Nutrition & Wellness from Arizona State University. His work has concentrated on the physical, mental and nutritional aspects of health. Prior to his arrival in the Bay Area, Jake was a professor of Exercise and Health Sciences at UMASS, and was the head coach of the Merrimack Valley Striders running club. Jake has worked as a sport performance coach for individual and team sports at Arizona State University, the University of Massachusetts-Boston and Chandler Gilbert Community College. His application of the motivations of marathon runners to the general public has been published globally in scientific and popular media outlets. He has served as physical activity consultant for the Arizona Department of Health and Human Services and for former Surgeon General Richard Carmona and Lance Armstrong’s National Call to Action on Cancer Prevention and Survivorship.

For the past 10 years, Jake has worked privately as a coach, motivational speaker and consultant. His experience includes athletes of all ages and fitness levels. Jake also has extensive experience coaching and training those who compete in endurance sports.

At Canyon Ranch in Tucson, AZ. Jake worked as an exercise physiologist where he conducted comprehensive fitness tests and designed appropriate exercise and nutrition programs. He also trained clients in a setting that, like Evolution, worked synergistically with Physical Therapists and provided comprehensive health services.

Jake loves to compete in endurance sports and has raced at all distances including the Ironman. Jake values his family, including his beloved dog Deuce, and friends, enjoys visiting his younger brother in LA and is excited to be a part of the Evolution team.
