Paula Chan
Paula has been practicing sports and orthopedic physical therapy for over 19 years. A Los Angeles native, Paula graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from UCLA, and then received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from University of the Pacific.
Paula is also a Certified Athletic Trainer. At UCLA, she had the opportunity to be a part of the Men’s Sports Medicine Staff, where she assisted with on-field injury assessment and rehabilitation of Division I athletes.
Over the years, Paula has become very interested in biomechanics and it’s affect on function, movement, and performance. Furthering her education and knowledge in this area, has greatly improved her ability to help her patients not only decrease their pains, but return to better function and performance than pre-injury.
For over 7 years, Paula also worked with a large population of active youth, through the Riekes Center for Human Performance Enhancement. This experience further increased her interest and awareness in faulty mechanics, and how they not only affect function and performance, but will often lead to injury. She is inspired to work with youth and adults to find their functional faults preventatively, and avoid injury.
Paula is also a Certified Performance Evaluator through the Titleist Performance Institute. While this evaluation is created for golfers, she has found it also improved the efficiency and play of her tennis players and skiers.
Paula’s physical therapy and training model, focuses on finding an individual’s specific biomechanical issues, utilizing manual skills to improve these, educating the individual to assist in correcting their mechanics, and then creating an exercise program to facilitate them, and progress them to their goals.
Treatment sessions are one-on-one with Paula, and do not utilize any aides or assistants.
