Alev Tug Ergun; M.A., NASM
Experiencing, reading about and teaching physical activity have always been a big joy for Alev. She believes that if you really love something, you have to appreciate the art and science behind it to enjoy it to the fullest. That's why she pursued her master's degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology. Alev loves running and ran her first marathon in 2004 in Big Sur after she had her first daughter, Duru. She also loves the outdoors and was an ambitious mountain climber; now she enjoys outdoors with backpacking trips and daily hikes. She also likes swimming, cycling, and various fitness activities.
The motivation to work as a personal trainer for Alev is to help people bring out their physical and mental potential to their maximum and enjoy life through physical activity. Whatever your goal is, she will be there for you as a workout buddy, as a trainer and a motivator. Her expertise with various training techniques and tools such as Pilates, yoga and functional training for total body conditioning is the key to her success in creating individualized training programs for different levels and abilities that generate successful results.
Alev is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the NASM. She is an avid learner, and attends workshops, seminars, and national meetings of highly respected institutions such as ACSM and NASM. She received prestigious scholarships and awards while studying for the MA degree in Kinesiology at San Jose State University. She now teaches various physical activity courses (i.e., Weight Training, Aerobics, Body Sculpting, Pilates, Yoga, and Cardio Kickboxing) as well as general education courses (i.e., Development of Human Potential, Child Fitness and Health).for the Kinesiology Department at SJSU.
Alev has done studies specifically on "Pregnancy and Exercise" and "Training for Climbing". She has worked with people with various abilities including stroke victims, older adults, adolescents, and people with multiple sclerosis, different orthopedic injuries, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
Alev also has quite an extensive background in performance and fitness testing such as VO2max with ECG, submax VO2, body composition (underwater weighing, skinfold, bioimpedance), Wingate anaerobic power, muscular endurance and strength. She has been involved with testing elite and recreational athletes through the SAFE (Sport and Fitness Evaluation) Program at SJSU.
